The program and the Festival

We begin the concert and the entire Bohuslän Chamber Music Festival with one of the most beloved works in music history – Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, an inexhaustible source of imagination, power and beauty that has inspired generations of musicians and listeners for over three hundred years.

The Funäs Chamber Soloists consists of prominent string musicians from all over Europe and is led by the internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Massimo Quarta, winner of the prestigious Paganini competition and a regular guest on the world’s major stages.
The first part of the concert is devoted entirely to Vivaldi’s music – without recitation by John Malkovich.

After the intermission, the performance Report on the Blind follows, in which John Malkovich portrays a man’s intense and dark search for the origin of evil in the world. Malkovich’s strong stage presence is combined with the Russian composer Alfred Schnittke’s expressive Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra, performed by the brilliant pianist Anastasya Terenkova.

The work is based on a passage from the Argentine author Ernesto Sabato’s novel On Heroes and Tombs – a psychological and philosophical depiction of man’s inner struggle and the dark shadows of society.
The result is a captivating and deeply moving experience – a musical and dramatic journey through light and darkness, where music and text are woven together into a powerful artistic whole.

A warm welcome!

Bohuslän’s Chamber Music Festival is a production by the Friends of Chamber Music, a non-profit association that since 2006 has arranged over 75 festivals and thousands of concerts with classical music around Sweden.

The association collaborates with prominent international artists, soloists and conductors as well as with young musicians from all over Europe. Our vocation is to spread, bring to life and renew chamber music – to let it resonate not only in concert halls but also in churches, in small towns and in unique environments from coast to mountain.

Through our festivals, we want to create meetings between music, people and places, where chamber music becomes a bridge between generations and cultures – a living cultural heritage in constant development.
